3 practical tips to stay bright and healthy this winter
Winter is the busiest time of the year for most natural practitioners and medical professionals. Up to 40% of presentations to clinics and hospitals in winter will be related to respiratory issues such as colds, flu, asthma and sinus complaints.
It is also a busy time for me so I thought to share 3 practical tips to help you stay bright and healthy this winter.
Tip 1 - Enjoy the new Fleurette Winter Essentials Collection containing our Revive & Restore herbal tea, essential oil blend, pulse point and room mist. It’s a handy kit to have if you work in an open plan environment or are regularly exposed to people who are prone to sickness (e.g. children attending day care / school / vacation care).
The Winter Essentials Collection contains the best products from our range to combat infection, ease congestion, freshen up stuffy rooms, clear sinuses and naturally boost your immune system. All our products in this collection are made with 100% pure essential oils, free from preservatives and are vegan friendly.
Tip 2 - Enjoy the sun! Even though we are in winter, we are blessed to enjoy days with clear skies and some sunshine – even if the mercury is low. Studies have shown that a lack of adequate sunshine can have a negative impact on your mental and physical wellbeing.
If you are prone to SAD (seasonal affective disorder), then catching a few rays of sun when you can will help your body to maintain adequate levels of vitamin D and assist in maintaining healthy melatonin production and a balanced body clock for sleep/wake cycles.
Some sun is better than none. If you work long hours and commute to and from work in the dark – find time on the weekend to take a walk or do some gardening. Your health is worth the extra effort – wouldn’t you agree?
Tip 3 – Enjoy your sleep! Sleep and rest are also beneficial for the immune system. Medical studies have shown that people who do not get adequate sleep are more likely to get sick after being exposed to a virus such as the common cold virus.
Rest and relaxation are vital to good health. Making time to relax and unwind can be as simple as enjoying your favourite scent with a warm cup of herbal tea or reading an uplifting book or connecting with positive people.
For those who are not getting enough sleep, I recommend getting into the habit of having our Peace & Quiet organic herbal tea with lavender and chamomile an hour before bed. Also, be open to adopting new pre-bedtime habits such as limiting screen time or gentle stretching to help you get some vital sleep.
Stay bright and healthy this winter – and I hope to see you around soon.
Stay well,
Ennia
